Fine English

England, ‘this precious stone set in the silver sea’ has made the English who we are. Every aspect of our lives – our history, our temperament, our eccentricity, our irrepressible humour, our fearless creativity have all been shaped by our island nature, the unpredictability of our temperate climate, our richly varied geology.

And from that ancient terrain comes ‘Digby Fine English Sparkling Wine’ – a superlative, elegant, spirited expression of Englishness – with all its follies and foibles, modesty and refinement, its courage and its curiosity…

Inspired by the extraordinary life of the 17th Century philosopher, theologian, writer, pirate, inventor and ‘father of the modern wine bottle’, Sir Kenelm Digby, ‘Digby Fine English’ is a wine of distinctively English character.

Digby – To courage & curiosity

Digby’s Cellar

We create long-term relationships with the best vineyards across English wine country (typically Kent, Sussex and Hampshire) to ensure a supply of only the finest quality berries. This diversity allows us to achieve our hallmark richness of flavour and texture. Our vineyard partners are selected according to the meticulous standards they employ.
Our focus is on Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, varieties proven to produce the most finesse. Time, care and patience goes into our rendition of the Traditional Method, which gently reveals the potential in each lot of pressed juice. We then pour ourselves into blending, where we create the liquid pleasures that are unmistakably Digby.

DIGBY 2009 RESERVE WINS ‘OSCAR’ FOR BEST ENGLISH FIZZ

DIGBY 2009 RESERVE WINS ‘OSCAR’ FOR BEST ENGLISH FIZZ

Digby Fine English has scooped the Trophy as England’s best sparkling wine.

The awards were founded in 2014 by world renowned critic Tom Stevenson, with the mission to be the ‘Oscars’ of the sparkling wine world.  He was joined in the tastings of every wine by Essi Avellan MW, with whom he is co-author of the definitive Christie’s World Encyclopedia of Champagne & Sparkling Wine, and Dr. Tony Jordan.

  • “Seriously complex, amazingly sleek and very smart sparkling wine, with yeast-complexed fruit of the highest and cleanest order.”
  • “Pale lemon.  Delicate nose with some pretty gunpowder complexity.  Promising, elegant nose.  Light-weight, elegant, fine-tuned neat palate. Suitable dosage, finely crafted.”
  • “Burnt match and toasty complexity … complex flavours, very dry finish.”
LET THE EXPORTS OF DIGBY BEGIN

LET THE EXPORTS OF DIGBY BEGIN

Exports to Anglo-loving places around the world have always been core strategy for Digby Fine English.  Now through a new strategic partnership with The British Bottle Company, it is time for the strategy to become reality.  As we write TBBC is en route to its first export market, the United States, for key meetings with importers and distributors and top wine critics on Digby’s behalf.  More countries will follow in October.  See more here.

AND IT’S GOLD FOR DIGBY!

AND IT’S GOLD FOR DIGBY!

Digby’s first ever vintage and its first Gold medal – what could go together better?  The 2014 Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships was designed by its founder, Tom Stevenson, to be the ‘Oscars’ of awards ceremonies for sparkling wine from round the world.  Tom is known in the industry as the world’s best Champagne critic.  Digby’s 2009 Reserve Brut won Gold as the best English vintage blend.  See more about the competition here.
English sparkling also has performed astonishingly well in the competition, with the most Gold medals outside Champagne.  In other words, English Sparkling has already revealed itself as the top contender to compete with Champagne when it comes to quality.  See more about the results here.
